'The Village of Lovers' Heads To California
Plus, more upcoming events for August/September
Welcome to the new readers who have joined my newsletter Dispatch From The Future.
First, a heads up: I’ve now created this separate channel in Substack called Workshops & Events where I focus primarily on announcing my upcoming offerings. My main channel is where I’ll post my longer essays and work. (You can adjust your settings to only send you the main feed if you prefer to not receive these shorter posts).
We’re a week into August and the summer heat has relaxed its radiant grip for the last few days.
My family and I are coming off a four-day “wedding festival” put together by friends in the Comox Valley, who gathered 100+ folks to support the forging of their marriage.
There’s a lot I could say about marriage…having been through the beginning and ending of one myself. As well, I’ve been steeped in the revolutionary proposition of what marriage could be by attending a few officiated by Stephen Jenkinson.
For now, I leave you with the seed that marriage might be best served and understood not as a personal undertaking, but the occasion to conjure the latent village-mindedness that lies dormant within so many of us orphaned from our ancestral lineages.
This recognition has become somewhat of a paradox for me, given another major strand of my exploration over the last decade has involved the project of Tamera Healing Biotope I, also the subject of my currently touring film The Village of Lovers. Within this community, marriage occurs rarely (we only found one couple who chose it partially because of VISA requirements). Their social field operates on a very different matrix of trust.
I intend to synthesize both threads in a future essay, as it tracks so much of my own journey - through marriage, then polyamory, and now what I might label as conscious partnership.
In the meantime, I’m pleased to share a number of upcoming offerings & collaborations:
AUG 24 - THE VILLAGE OF LOVERS PREMIERE
Oakland, CA
I’m headed down to California for the first time since the pandemic to join my co-filmmakers John Wolfstone & Julia Maryanska to premiere The Village of Lovers. We’ll be on hand to introduce the film then offer a post-screening Q&A. This will be a special night not to miss seeing the documentary on the big screen!
AUG 26 - VISIONS OF LOVE
Day-Long Immersion with John Wolfstone, Julia Maryanska
Bay Area, CA
On the Saturday, we’re crafting a day-long immersion that includes special guests from Tamera to dive into a container of eros, emergence and village.
SEPT 8-10 - EVOLUTIONARY EROS
Afternoon workshop with Asha Marie
Imagine Festival, Orcas Island, WA
I’m very happy to return to Imagine Festival once again. The last time I attended was to premiere my film Amplify Her, as well as offer a talk with my filmmaking team. This time, I’m joined by my partner Asha Marie to explore the theme of Evolutionary Eros. How can we liberate ourselves and our communities to integrate this energy into our lives? We’ll explore these questions through somatic play, breathwork, and council.
SEPT 15-17 - THE NATURE OF EROS
Weekend Immersion with Asha Marie
Rowe Center, MA
Continuing the collaboration with my partner, we’ve been invited to offer a full weekend at the historic Rowe Center in Massachusetts. “The Nature of Eros” is an immersive workshop designed to help participants explore profound questions related to love and desire. From the description: “Delve deep into the concept of Eros as the primary life force that permeates the natural world. Embody this energy and access its healing power to transmute patterns from the past and cultivate a future with more love and ability to source our choices from our truest authentic selves.”
If you’re looking for my Mythic Masculine podcast related updates, I have another Substack located here: The Mythic Masculine.
New episodes are forthcoming, including ones with Christopher Ryan (Sex At Dawn) and more special guests.
Also I’ll be offering more MXM Immersions for men - considering the first one a few weeks back when beautifully. You can read an account from my co-facilitator Deus on his Facebook.
Would love to see you at any of these events. Thanks for reading.
