My longtime friend and collaborator Julia Maryanska is in the final week of the fundraising campaign for her new documentary Intimate Revolutions.
The film, which began years ago under a different title, was initially how I met Julia. We were both making films about love & relationships. My film project, in collaboration with John Wolfstone would become The Village of Lovers.
Julia joined our production team and continued to incubate her project alongside. With our film now touring the world, she has been free to dedicate more of her effort to developing her intensely intimate and collective story, and it’s exciting to feel it evolving.
From the current synopsis:
“Rooted in her desire for erotic liberation, for over 13 years, Director Julia Maryanska documents the most intimate areas of her life, challenging cultural norms, and shedding light on the intricate landscapes and multicultural expectations of motherhood, womanhood and sexuality.”
Julia also wrote a raw and poignant essay about her experience with miscarriage and the war in Palestine/Israel under the title: Giving Birth to Death.
An excerpt:
A mother who births another life is the one who touches that doorway of life and death, as another walks through it.
Mother is one who creates, and lets go.
Mother is not meant to keep what she births, but aims to create environments in which that creation can reach its potential.
I highly recommend you read the full piece via the link above.
In support of her campaign, I recorded a brief conversation, diving into the story & themes explored in the film. Have a listen below:
If you’re inspired, please help her reach her funding goal and bring Intimate Revolutions to the world.
Plus, don’t miss:
Earlier this week I released a compelling new episode of The Mythic Masculine that sheds compelling light on a tale that launched a thousand mythopoetic men's circles.
Educator and wilderness mentor Stephanie MacKay applies years of her time steeping with Martin Prechtel to reveal the animist origins of Iron John.
As well, we cover how to approach stories as living beings, through courtship, etymology and reciprocity - and where they go to hide in dark times.

What a sweet little interview with Julia…and in watching her campaign trailer I saw a dear old friend there, the fellow playing guitar on the porch who appears for a moment!
